ACC - Boss Hogg
Up ACC - Boss Hogg TCI Torque Conv

The torque converter is a device that allows transmission of power from the engine to the transmission without the use of a clutch.   Like two fans facing each other, the internal components use transmission fluid to transfer power.  The characteristic of the internal components can be changed to affect the characteristics.  The most common characteristic quoted for torque converters is stall speed.  Stall speed is the RPM at which the input will hold the engine with the output held motionless.

Stock engines are designed for fuel economy and low warranty costs.  For the manufacturer a low stall speed torque converter improves both but performance suffers.   As the performance of an engine increases the rpm range usually increases.  To get the most from the engine the torque converter's stall speed should be increased to allow the engine to work at maximum output.

The ultra tow is for engines with minimal modifications.  Great for towing and heavier engines this converter results in lower transmission temperatures and improved gas mileage.

For mild engine modifications the two higher values of stall speed in this converter will result in strong initial acceleration.   This converter is for engines that are running an improved cam, stock crank and rods and a 180 degree intake manifold. The increased stall speed will reduce drag at idle to benefit a mildly lopey cam and allow higher engine speed and more torque at launch.

So you've got a strong engine that has been highly modified, but you still want to get groceries now and then.  These converters are for engines that have significant modifications.  Engines with headers, big 4bbl intakes or EFI and improved heads will benefit from the lower stall speed converters in this series.  An engine with 360 degree intake manifold, improved rods and high compression pistons and a 7,000 and above red line will benefit from the higher stall speeds.

Outlaw

These 91/2" converters are for high torque all out racing engines.  Higher engine speed and increased torque will cause a torque converter to expand from the internal fluid pressure, just like a balloon.  The Outlaw series as special plates to reduce that problem.  Furnace brazing is the highest quality  production method for producing torque converters, and that is the method used for the Outlaw series.
